SpLD Consultations

DSPL3 has commissioned SpLD Consultations with Jenny Wright through Herts & Essex Multi-Academy Trust.  Jenny is an experienced Advisory Teacher whose qualifications include Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia/SpLD and level 5 Diploma in Dyscalculia and Maths difficulties.  She has worked in both Mainstream and Special schools as class teacher and SENCo.  She has also worked for many years as a Specialist Advisory Teacher for HCC County SpLD and Cognition and Learning teams. Schools receive expert advice and guidance from Jenny.

SpLD (Specific Learning Difficulties) Consultations are 35 – 40 minute sessions that can be used in a number of ways:

  • A specific area causing concern (e.g.; spelling, writing, memory) across school/year group/cohort.
  • SENCo advice (e.g.; for school action plan, EHCP advice, unpicking professional reports etc.)
  • Named pupil consultation (a chance to talk about individual pupils and to move forward with appropriate targeted support).  Parental consent is required and parents/carers and other members of staff are welcome to attend.

For all consultations, please complete a brief information form outlining area of discussion.  There is an additional form to complete for named pupil consultations.

Statement of Intent

To ensure that all schools have access to high-quality advice for pupils with a specific learning difficulty or co-presenting needs which impact their cognition and learning. This advice can include provision of a specialist report suitable for submission as part of EHCNA, LHNF and EHCP Review.

To support teachers and parents to feel empowered to work in consistent ways to meet the needs of these pupils, enabling them to achieve their full potential whatever stage of their education they are in.  To receive support with planning an individualised curriculum and training for support staff delivering the programme.

We will support bookings with individual schools and multi-academy trusts. If you wish to tailor make the support your school or trust needs then please contact us to discuss options.  Examples of visits could include:

  • Named pupil consultation visits – pupil observation, meeting with staff, 1:1 with pupils, standardised or informal assessments.  Oral or formal written feedback.
  • SENCO support visit – 1 hour session, held at a local school.  Advice on areas such as interventions, individual unnamed students, creating flowcharts for literacy provision, advice on using standardised assessments.
  • Small group advice visit – observation of pupils, meeting with staff, group advice plan to support implementation of an adapted curriculum, loan of resources.
  • Whole day consultation visit – Jenny will spend a day completing outreach work as directed by the SENCO/SLT.  Bespoke advice such as development of school reading programme.
  • Consultation visit for unnamed pupils - 3 hour session – where SENCo and/or class teacher can discuss up to 4 unnamed pupils in their school. Support given for assessment advice, next steps in the form of an ADPR cycle.
  • Bespoke staff training for 1 – 2 hours or INSET
