Special School Outreach (SSO) Services

Amwell Outreach

Amwell View School is the County selected special school offering Outreach provision to all mainstream schools within DSPL3.

The Outreach service helps to ensure that pupils with any additional needs, can remain in their local mainstream school wherever possible.  Pupils do not need a specific diagnosis to access the Outreach service.

The Outreach service offers mainstream Primary and Secondary schools and Early Years providers, support and assistance with individual pupil needs, whole class support or whole school advice and training.

Amwell View Outreach service is a bespoke service offered to mainstream schools in the area.

From September 2025, the Outreach service is changing.  This change is designed to ensure that support is targeted more effectively and reaches those who need it most, at the right time.

The revised model will see Special School Outreach services focusing primarily on children and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who are currently placed in mainstream schools.  We have heard from some schools about the challenges faced by some of the children who are currently waiting to transfer to a specialist provision or a special school.  Therefore, from September 2025, we are prioritising allocation for SSO to those.

All new referrals to Special School Outreach services will now be made through the Single Service Request form and be considered through the usual triage process. This will allow us to assess each referral and the need of the child and allocate the most appropriate support, service, or intervention.

Any child or young person (without an EHCP) who requires support will likely receive support through other existing services such as SEND Special Advisory Service (SENDSAS), Primary Support Bases (PSBs), Education Support Centres (ESC) etc.

To access the Outreach service, please complete the Single Service Request Form:  Hertfordshire Service Request Form - Children and young people
