Educational Psychology Consultations

DSPL3 are offering termly consultation sessions with Dr Katy Cole, Educational Psychologist (EdPsych-Insight).

Educational psychology consultations are 45-50 minute sessions that can be used for collaborative problem solving and support for:

  • an individual child/young person – if there are concerns around progress in learning, social interactions, emotional presentation or any other area of Special Educational Needs. It is helpful to invite the parents and include the pupil in these consultations
  • a group/class – if there are concerns about group dynamics, how to plan for differing needs across a group, or explore interventions for a particular area of need
  • an aspect of your role – if you want a space as a SENCo, senior leader or mental health lead to reflect on the emotional or work pressures of the role and explore next steps
  • an area of need in the school – if you would like support for strategic planning around e.g., literacy provision, well-being, inclusion

The intended outcomes of participating in a consultation are to have more clarity and shared understanding of a situation, and ideas on next steps to take. A short record of the consultation will be provided as evidence of discussion and action.

For all consultations, a brief information form is required to be completed beforehand to outline what you want to get out of the consultation and relevant information on the pupil, group, or area of need in the school. Signed parent consent is essential for any pupil consultation.

The first block of sessions will be released from 9am on Monday 20th May 2024.  Subsequent blocks will be released from September.  Communication and advance notice of this will be sent to schools and details updated on here – so please check back.

TO BOOK:  Head Teacher or SENCO to email DSPL3 Area Manager (Katie Algate) directly – dspl3manager@amwell.herts.sch.uk These are on a first come first serve basis.  Once the session has been confirmed you will then be sent a school questionnaire and parent consent to complete and send back to DSPL3 Manager and Dr Katy Cole.  Dr Katy Cole will then send you a zoom link through.  You will receive a written report and evaluation to complete after your consultation.
