Mindkindness

Mindkindness is run by Sarah Birch.  Sarah is a qualified Teacher, a Relax Kids Coach and a Functional Breath Coach.  Sarah uses the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model to incorporate a mindful element to her work.  She has studied with MISP (Mindfulness in Schools Project) and completed both the MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and MBSC (Mindfulness Based Self Compassion) courses.  Other relevant certificates include Enhanced DBS, NSPCC Safeguarding, Paediatric First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Aware Facilitator and Yoga Alliance approved Breath Coach.  Further details can be found at www.mindkindness.co.uk

Relax kids is a programme suited to people of all ages who want to try out a variety of tools and techniques to help them to feel more calm and connected. The Relax Kids ‘7 Steps of Relaxation’ provide a varied and fun approach aimed at helping to decrease stress and anxiety, increase self-esteem and improve concentration and focus.

The Chill Skills course is designed particularly for students in Years 6 and 7. It is usually run as a 6 week course with a selected group of students within the school day. The course aims to support young people at a key time of change, building foundations and providing skills for life.  Sessions are best run in a nurture group style, allowing for a more relaxed environment where key topics can be discussed. They are structured using the format of the Relax Kids ‘7 Steps of Relaxation’. These 7 steps enable the students to experience a therapeutic approach to learning tips and techniques for improved self-regulation and resilience.

Sarah has previously provided services at schools and settings and is also commissioned independently by parents.

DSPL3 will be commissioning Mindkindness to pilot a scheme in one of our Secondary schools.  Whilst the course is run for 6 weeks, we have chosen to run an additional 7th ‘top-up’ session at a later date.  This enables Sarah to revisit the students and go back over techniques and refresh anything they may have forgotten or address anything they have or are struggling with.  We aim to run the course in late October or even November aimed at those pupils that have struggled with the transition to Secondary school.  It is hoped this early intervention will ensure we are catching our CYP at the start of any struggles, so they do not become vulnerable to EBSA in the future
